Hazardous Waste Management

Nuclear Sources & Services, Inc.| NSSI Houston

According to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), hazardous wastes are defined as any waste or combination of wastes which pose a substantial present or potential hazard to human health or living organisms because such wastes are nondegradable or persistent in nature or because they can be biologically magnified, or because they can be lethal, or because they may otherwise cause or tend to cause detrimental cumulative effects.
The management of hazardous wastes has become a specialized discipline because of the complex nature of the problem and the solutions available to humanity. The mismanagement of hazardous wastes can have disastrous human and environmental consequences.
Hazardous waste management, therefore, deals with minimizing harmful effects on humans and the environment by applying special techniques of handling, storage, transportation, treatment, and disposal of hazardous wastes.
